The rain has finally stopped, the weather has settled into a breezy 70 degrees, and my husband and I went for our first jog together in the new neighborhood. The thing that I hate love about him is that he really pushes us when we work out. They say that girls marry men like their fathers. In this way, my husband is identical to my dad — they are both drill sargeants. If you read my blog regularly, then you know I have a very sweet husband who occasionally comes home with flowers, helps with meals when I’m busy, lends a hand to the cleaning, and takes me on a date at least once a month. But this gentle, kind soul becomes a thing of terror when we’re running. He said we’d start slow, but suddenly we were running up long hills ‘just for fun’ and taking detours to ‘see new scenery.’ And heaven forbid I threaten to walk up a hill. He either jogs behind me, barking, “You can do it. Don’t stop. Keep going!” or he shrugs and says, “Well, if you feel you need to walk up it…” And that is just as awful because then I feel like a quitter, so suddenly I have to keep going, no matter how badly my legs are burning.
It was also my first time wearing shorts while running this year. I can’t help but feel that running is easier in shorts than in pants. My legs felt so free! But I’m not convinced that the poor little boy who fell off his bike on the side of the road didn’t fall because of the sun glaring off my my white legs. I’ve started to use lotion that has a tint of color, so we’ll see how that helps. I figured that I’ll either be glowing with a healthy tan or completely orange… Either way, I won’t be white anymore, so that has to be a step in the right direction.
I’m not sure if most people are like this, or if it’s just me, but I lose my appetite right after I run. I really wasn’t that hungry for dinner… which means tomorrow morning I will wake up and want to eat like a horse. All I can say is that my morning bowl of cereal is going to taste amazing.
Here’s to hoping that the weather will cooperate tomorrow night so that Nate and I can go for another run! And here’s a special shout-out to my sister Sarah — a.k.a. the author of the blog — www.slowthingsdown.wordpress.com. She was accepted into her nutritionist internship, which is incredibly competitive and extremely difficult to get into. In fact, I am so super excited for her, I probably could go for another run with Nate right now… Well, okay, maybe that’s pushing it. But I could probably run around the house a whole lot. So happy for you, Girl! You worked hard and all that work has paid off. No one deserves it more!
