Chocolate, Sugar-Topped Cake

Looking for a quick chocolate cake recipe that doesn’t even require frosting?  This is a yummy recipe that my husband found and asked me to try.  The cake is light and fluffy, topped with melted chocolate chips and the slight crunch of baked brown sugar.  And it makes a lot, so it’s great for company or for sharing with someone special.  🙂

Chocolate, Sugar-Topped Cake

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup milk

1/2 cup butter or margarine

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1 1/4 cups real semi-sweet chocolate chips

— Heat oven to 350 degrees Farenheit. Combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt in large bowl. Add milk, margarine, egg, and vanilla.  Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until well mixed.  Spread batter into greased 13×9-inch baking pan.  Sprinkle with brown sugar; sprinkle with chocolate chips.  Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.  Cool completely.
