I have lived in the country for most of my life, and I have never been to a Farmer’s Market. Not once. So when my sister Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) became giddy with excitement when we drove past one, I didn’t fully under stand. But as we walked through the stands set up with the freshest of vegetables, breads, flowers, and cheese, I felt her excitement rub off on me. This was pure summer, set up in a grassy field in the center of town.
I have been missing out on so much!
Of course there was a touch of Autumn. Sunflowers! They had the biggest, brightest sunflowers for sale, and I’ve decided that — before the season is done — a bouquet will find its way home with me. Love, love, love sunflowers!
And — of course — my excitement continued as we made our way through Whole Foods and Target later in the day. I wouldn’t be able to afford shopping in Whole Foods on a regular basis, but I absolutely love looking. And I’m beginning to find a few items that I can splurge on, like Justin’s Honey Peanut butter and Tea. Oh, and of course, their free samples are pretty cool too. 🙂
I spread my money out, picking up some packets of peanut butter and this fun stuff… Whole Foods has the greatest assortment of tea, and the Rishi Tea — Tropical Crimson blend — was on sale. I haven’t tried it yet, but it smells heavenly! And I’ve been meaning to try Target’s new salad dressing from Giada, so that will make for a cheap meal next week (just going to toss the Parmesan Garlic dressing with pasta, fresh veggies, and chicken). I also picked up some Honey Nut Chex for I-need-something-sweet-and-crunchy munching.
And — of course — a trip to Whole Foods isn’t complete unless we’ve eaten lunch somewhere. I’m beginning to think that Sarah and I go out as an excuse to buy some good food. The window-shopping is just filler. Lunch? Now that’s the important part. I always get the same thing when I go to Panera, so I decided to be a bit spontaneous and went with their Tomato Mozzerella Panini. Fresh Ciabetta bread filled with slices of tomatoes, sun-dried tomato pesto, fresh mozzerella and then grilled to perfect. So good! I paired it with a Greek salad, which is also new to me. Definitely will be trying both selections again.
And for the ride home, we stopped at our favorite coffee chain: Starbucks. They came back with their pumpkin latte, which I am very excited about. But as it was a hot day and felt more like summer than fall, I went with their Caramel Latte (with soy, instead of milk). So refreshing! (They also just came out with a Toffee Mocha Latte. Has anyone tried it yet? If so, what’d you think?).
Definitely a fun day spent with my best friend. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the weekend will bring!
