Nearly three years ago, a young man said “I do.” He promised to love in sickness and in health. To cherish. To comfort. To remain loyal and steadfast, no matter the circumstances. No matter the challenges. To love always.
And then, he kissed his princess. His bride. And he told her, with sparkling eyes, that he would do anything for her. Anything!
He imagined fighting off the dragons. Holding her hand when she had the flu. Kissing away her tears and then laughing with her throughout the years.
But in the comfort of their cozy home, one warm spring evening, she asked him for his help. And it wasn’t to fight off the dragons. Or to hold her hand. She didn’t even have any tears for him to kiss away.
She asked him to him to help her fill out wedding shower invitations for her upcoming friend’s wedding. Sixty-nine of them… all imprinted with tea cups and swirly cursive.
He paused only a moment. Worried about his pride for a brief second. And then looked at her anxious face and reached for the black pen she handed him. He said that he would help her until every envelope had been addressed.
And he may have thought that he stepped off his white horse for the next hour or so. That he set down his armor and exchanged it for a wardrobe less fitting for a man destined to fight dragons. But to his wife? His princess?
She thought that her knight in shining armor had never been so strong.
Thank you for your help with all of the invitations tonight, Nate. I couldn’t have done it without you! Sometimes, simple moments really are best. Love you! — Nicole
